Why You Need a Dental Plan (& Care)

Do you know the last time you saw a dentist?

Thanks to the pandemic, many people got off their normal routine of going twice a year.

The importance of good dental care cannot be overlooked, and having a good dental plan ensures that you and your family are getting the dental care you need. When you see your dentist twice a year for cleanings and dental exams, any problems that arise can be quickly taken care of.

At a regular dental visit, the dentist will:

  • Check your gums for signs of infection

  • Check for cavities

  • Clean away plaque and tartar

  • Check for abnormalities that could indicate cancer

Although severe dental problems are expensive, most can be prevented with regular check-ups. Any of the above problems would be expensive to correct if they are left unchecked for too long. They can also cause severe health problems if they go undetected. By seeing the dentist regularly, any problems that arise will be handled before they get out of control.

If you are already seeing a dentist twice a year, but don’t have insurance, a dental plan will save you money. With most dental plans, cleanings and annual x-rays are 100% covered, and the out-of-pocket costs for other services are highly discounted.

On the other hand, if you avoid the dentist because the cost is just too high, adding dental care to your health insurance plan will allow you to spread the cost of care out over the course of the year.

When you don’t see a dentist regularly, you run the risk of:

  • Gum disease

  • Tooth loss

  • Cancer

  • Bone loss

Not only does a preventative dental plan help save you money, but it also covers you in the case of a major dental emergency. Fillings, tooth removals, crowns, and root canals will cost you 50-80% less with a dental plan than without.

Most dental plans also have allowances for orthodontic care. If you have children, you will want to be covered in case they need retainers or braces. With a dental plan, you could save thousands of dollars if your children’s teeth and/or jaw are not aligned properly.

Instilling good dental habits in your children will carry over into other aspects of their lives as they grow. Children with good health habits have fewer medical issues and less instances of depression and other mental health issues. Set your children up for success by teaching them to brush and floss twice a day and taking them to the dentist every 6 months.

As always, we are here for you to help you find the right dental care for your situation. Send us a message today and let’s get your covered!
